The greatly anticipated contest between Victor and Pittsford was resolved, at least at this point, tonight when Victor overcame a 4-2 halftime deficit and scored seven goals in the second half to beat the Panthers 9-6.

There were interesting games today and two of the more interesting were won by one goal. Thomas beat Fairport 12-11 and Penfield beat Penn Yan 9-8. Churchville-Chili defeated HFL 16-13 and Irondequoit defeated Brighton 10-7.

The All Tournament Teams for 2017 were announced at each final. MVPs for A and C were Colby Barker (Pittsford) and James Blazey (Pal-Mac). In the Class B, the award went to Andrew Russell (Victor) and in the class D it went to Connor Finger (Penn Yan).

# 1255  Pittsford Wins Fifth Title

Pittsford won their fifth Section Five Championship with a 9-5 win over Fairport.  The Panthers won their last Championship in 2015 with an 11-6 win over Penfield (HERE).  Pittsford took off and scored the first six goals before the Red Raiders got on the board.  The Panther defense held Fairport scoreless for 28 minutes.

The top two teams advanced in the Class A and Class C semifinals today. `Pittsford (#1) will take on Fairport (#2) and HF-L (#1) will play Pal-Mac (#2) in the championship rounds next Tuesday.

# 1246  Fairport Returns to Finals After 2 Year Absence

Second seeded Fairport came to play and defeated Penfield 13-9.  The Red Raiders scored the first four goals and held Penfield scoreless into the second quarter.  The Patriots fought back hard for the entirety of the game, but never got closer than 2 goals.  Fairport was led in scoring by TJ Hendricks with 4g-2a.  Jake Bucci (4g-1a) and Spencer Bell (3g-1a) also added significant scoring for the Red Raiders.  Fairport advances to the Finals for the sixth time in nine years (3 wins in 2014, 2012, 2010 and 2 losses in 2011 and 2009).  They have not reached the finals since their win over Pittsford in 2014.

Nine different players made the offensive book for th Red Raiders, with Reese Burek (2g-2a) and TJ Hendricks (3g) leading the list. Jake Santini made 8 saves (62%) in the cage for the Red Raiders who finished their regular season at 8-8.

Webster Thomas played a close one with Hamburg (Section VI). The Titans led 5-3 at the half and the teams traded goals in the second half. Brad Smith and Nick Mabe each had 2g-2a for Thomas. Fairport (11-3) travelled south to beat Corning (12-4) of Section IV with TJ Hendricks (1g-2a) and Jake Bucci (2g-1a) leading the Red Raider offense.

# 1225  Thursday: Hilton Spoils Senior Night at Brighton

A five goal run in the fourth quarter gave Hilton (5-9) a win against host Brighton (6-7) tonight on Senior Night. Hilton took their first lead of the game with 6:12 remaining in the fourth quarter and held off Brighton’s attempt at a comeback to defeat the Barons 13-11. Brighton played three strong quarters before Hilton took over in the fourth. The Cadets scored five unanswered goals spanning just over 4 minutes in the final quarter to secure the win.

Canandaigua attackman Devin Andrews scored 7g-2a for the Braves (11-4) when they beat Penfield (6-7) at home tonight. Joe post was 21-26 at the draw and added 11 ground balls for CA. Geneva (8-4) held Penn Yan (6-7) scoreless in the second half in their 5-1 victory this afternoon. Geneva goalie Jacob Drennen recorded 24 saves for an amazing 96% while Sam Miller led the offense with 1g-3a.

In what some were calling a possible Class B final, Victor took an 8-1 half to a 17-3 win against Webster Thomas as nine Blue Devils made the offensive scorebook. Freshman attackman Joey Pezzimenti led the scoring with 4g-1a. Chayse Ierlan made 13s (87%) in 38 minutes for Victor. Nick Mabe scored 2g for Thomas.

# 1199  Thursday: Victor Takes Out Pittsford

Victor defeated Pittsford for the fourth year and handed the Panthers their first loss of the season with their 6-3 win. Victor controlled nearly the entire contest and led 6-1 with just over 2 minutes remaining in the contest. Zach Estabrooks score four goals for the Blue Devils and goalie Chayse Ierlan made 7s (70%) for Victor. There was a large crowd and Pittsford asked for a $2.00 donation in support of the National Wounded Warrior Foundation in the Shootout for Soldiers that will be hosted by Canandaigua this summer.

Fairport (4-1) used a five goal second quarter to spoil the perfect record of host Ithaca (7-1) this afternoon. Senior goalie Jake Santini had an impressive fourteen save day (78%) in the cage for the Red Raiders who saw TJ Hendricks lead the offense with 3g-1a. Senior Nick Miller scored all four goals for Ithaca.

It was a full day of lacrosse today with fifteen games played by twenty-nine Section Five teams. Irondequoit won a close game with Canandaigua as junior midfielder Kessel Stefano scored with 9.2 seconds left to secure the 12-11 win at home.

Thomas scored seven of the last eight goals to defeat Fairport 15-10.  The Titans increase their record to 5-1 with the win.  Over the first three quarters the score was never more than 2 goals apart with the game tied seven times.  However, Thomas scored four unanswered goals to start the final quarter and take the largest lead of the game 13-9.  The Red Raiders could not come back and only added a single goal in the fourth.

 NOTES and COMMENTS: Ithaca started off the game with a bang. The Little Red scored the first three goals with impressive plays. The opening goal was scored with a feed from behind the cage by Nick Miller to Ryan Sposito. Sposito finished with 3g-2a to lead Ithaca. One minute later Collin Case fed the crease to Matt Pagliaro for a second goal.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2016 season. Senior defenseman Jared Conners (Pittsford), midfielder/Face off specialtis T.D. Ierlan (Victor), midfielder Ryan Maloney (Victor) and midfielder Jamie Trimboli (Victor) were named US Lacrosse All Americans from Monroe County.Senior LSM Jack Callahan (Victor), Irondequoit senior midfielder Trevor Carney and senior attackman Dan Doktor, senior attackman Jack Kauffman (Pittsford), senior attackman Colin McElligott (Spencerport) and senior midfielder Joe Vasile (Webster Thomas) were selected as US Lacrosse All-Academics.
